SHU XIAN WONGshu_wong84@hotmail.comwork located at The Convention Centre ARTIST STATEMENT Faith is the delicate layer of strength which grows, covering and protecting the self from everyday turmoil, in the same way as skin would shield the human body against its surroundings. The texts on the statue are sourced from youths in Australia and Singapore who were encouraged to explore and share their ideas of faith in today’s world. ‘Faith is the sense of life, that sense by virtue of which man does not destroy himself, but continues to live on. It is the force whereby we live.’ Tolstoy BIOGRAPHY Shu Xian Wong is a recent graduate of the Sydney College of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Masters in Studio Art. Focusing initially on painting, Wong has more recently experimented with sculpture. She is currently in the process of developing ways to turn paint into sculptural forms. In 2004 Wong exhibited at Newspace Art Gallery and in group exhibitions in 2006. Her work was also shown in the Sydney College of the Arts graduate show, 2006, and postgraduate show, 2007. « BACK TO ARTISTS |
