LEAHLANI JOHNSONleahlanijohnson@hotmail.comwork located at The Domain ARTIST STATEMENT The concept of Overgrown Jesus came from reading Mathew 6:19–21 where we are urged not to store up store up our treasures on earth, but in heaven. By incorporating plant elements into my design I aim to highlight the statue's material state and so redirect our faith heavenward. Mathew 6:19 ‘Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.’ Revised Standard Version BIOGRAPHY Leahlani Johnson has completed studies in both fine arts and design. She has taught visual arts in a variety of tertiary institutions including The Julian Ashton Art School. Her usual practice as an artist sits somewhere between paint, the printed image and the moving image. With an interest in generating greater awareness of emerging artists, Johnson has also coordinated the Propeller Art & Design Award over a number of years. Leahlani is currently working on a series of moveable art pieces inspired by a recent trip to China. « BACK TO ARTISTS |
