AMPERSANDwww.ampersandmagazine.com.auwork located at West Circular Quay ARTIST STATEMENT This work was inspired by a prayer meeting I witnessed in a gaol in the Philippines. Inmates attached prayers written on scraps of paper to balloons, which were released at the end of the service and floated over the prison walls. Attached to this Jesus are statements — not prayers, as they are written by atheists. Faith is required for prayers to be answered. Since they lack this faith, these statements will never be released to the heavens, but remain fixed to the Earth. BIOGRAPHY Ampersand is a Melbourne based arts journal for the promotion of curiosity. Ampersand’s words and pictures celebrate multiplicity and unpopular arguments, and favours subversion and grit over fashion and mediocrity. « BACK TO ARTISTS |
